Des Vides


This is a self invented kind of dish with mixed flavours :), Its a great dish for breakfast or evening snacks. It carries the desi flavour of besan chilla with videsi flavour of a tomato salsa, hence the name :)



Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes
Serving - 3-4 people


Ingredients for  Besan Chilla

  • Besan - 1.5 katori
  • Onion - 1 medium,
  • Green chilly - 1 medium
  • Salt- to taste
  • coriander leaves - few
  • Red chilly powder
  • Oil
Ingredients for Salsa
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 green chilly, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
Prepare salsa first and keep it in deep freezer to cool it properly.


Method for Salsa
In a medium bowl, stir tomatoes, onion, chili peppers, coriander, salt, and lime juice. Chill in the refrigerator before serving with Besan chilla.


Method for Besan Chilla
  1. Take besan in a bowl, add onion, coriander, green chilly, water and make a paste by stirring
  2. To this add salt, red chilly powder, coriander leaves.
  3. Heat a non stick tawa.
  4. Add some oil to grease tawa.
  5. Pour some besan paste to make small disc, size as shown in pics.
  6. Keep flame on medium and add some oil on this disc.
  7. Flip and cook it on both sides till crisp and brown.
To Serve you can add Fresh Salsa on top of each chilla , or use some creativity with Tomato ketchup and salsa as well :). 


Chef's tip: Tastes best when Besan chilla is served hot with cold Salsa.
